According to the public relations of the Golestan Palace World Heritage Complex report, Afarin Emami said: After the introduction, one of the main goals of research on cultural and museum works is conservation and preservation. She continued: A historical and cultural work becomes old, worn out and may suffer physical and biological damage over time, and these studies are useful to identify these damages, to determine the amount of damage and the method of prevention and improvement of the work condition, and finally with cost estimation and credit allocation, restoration of the work is done.
Emami clarified: These researches are also relevant in the issue of preventive preservation, when a work is subjected to damage inspection research, any event that causes damage to the work is identified and further damage is prevented.
She added: Also, in the next stages of the researches, the search for urgent protection and restoration of works will also be done, therefore, in addition to the introduction and development, management and transfer of knowledge in the fields of museums, researches will help to identify the works in need of restoration. In this case, museums welcome the researchers to examine a damaged work, so that these damages can be identified and restored. Therefore, Golestan Palace welcomes researchers from different fields to come and select different works of this world complex and do research on them.
Emami stated: In this regard, a research was conducted on the carpet of the Mirrors Hall, a carpet that was furnished the Mirrors for many years during the Qajar and Pahlavi periods, but due to wear and tear, it was transferred and stored in the reservoir, and its restoration is important for Golestan Palace.
He specified: Although the conditions had been provided during this period so that this carpet won’t suffer more damage, but in order to revive this carpet, a very good research to identify damages along with restoration was needed. In this case, this process has been shown in the form of a documentary titled (Mirrors Hall Carpet). Emami added: Research serves the preservation and restoration of objects, and all efforts are made to ensure that these researches are not only turned into an article, film, and cultural works, but are also used for proper exploitation in the preservation of historical works.
