The director of Golestan Palace World Heritage Complex announced the preparation of the revitalization plan of the runnel and its fountain of the aqueduct in front of the Badgir Mansion of this world complex.
According to the public relations of the Golestan Palace World Heritage Complex report, Afarin Emami said: the magnificent historical complex that remains today under the name of Golestan Palace in the heart of Tehran is a part of the Homayuni palace (royal citadel) that was formed before the Qajar period and it continues its life in this period.
The director of the Golestan Palace World Heritage Complex added: This world complex has undergone changes since then until today, and these extensive destructions and constructions, especially are more evident in the first Pahlavi period with the destruction of parts of it and in the second Pahlavi period with the construction of government offices.
She continued: In the meantime, historical documents indicate the existence of a large reservoir (lake) that was located between the edifice in front of the Exit Mansion and Golestan Palace Hall, which was expanded with the destruction of this mansion during the Nasrid period, as it expanded from the front of Sham al-Emareh to the Abyaz Mansion.
Emami clarified: the source of water supply in this area was a canal that has been originated from the mountains in north of Tehran and was connected to this reservoir through ponds such as Bulor pond, Narenjestan pond and middle stream in the north-south axis. After entering the canals of the Badgir mansion, it has left the southern end of the complex.
She continued: The revitalization plan of this runnel (and its fountain) in the middle of the Golestan palace complex has been prepared with a special research including considering executive approach and with the review and study of historical documents, a special observation of the theoretical foundations of restoration and time reference analysis of restoration.
Emami clarified: Undoubtedly, due to the presence of flora elements, the existing physical and spatial conditions and structures, it was not possible to recreate the reservoirs exactly, and the creation of that place with a special affinity to the original structural elements of this section was considered.
She pointed out: Water is one of the principles of Iranian garden design and one of the most important elements of the Iranian garden, therefore its existence and revival in the area of the Golestan Palace World Heritage Complex, which is a symbol and a relic of the Iranian garden, is very important, hence the revival of this runnel and its fountain will be very effective and useful in reviving the Iranian garden in this global complex.
