The director of the Golestan Palace World Heritage Complex announced the installation of antibacterial and flame retardant carpets in the Salam Hall, Marble Throne Porch, and Almas Mansion of this world heritage complex, and said: The Shams al-Emareh Edifice and the Badgir Mansion will also be furnished with antibacterial and flame retardant carpets.
According to the Public Relations Department of Golestan Palace World Heritage Complex report, Afarin Emami, about the installation and furnishing of the Salam Hall with antibacterial and flame retardant carpets, said: Given the number of historical monuments in this world heritage complex for displaying Qajar period works and buildings, including the floors of some halls that also are covered with seven-color tiles from the Qajar period, appropriate measures should have been taken into account.
She continued: Not so long ago, thick carpets or carpet-like covers were used to facilitate visitors, but the presence of these carpets actually caused various damages, such as the accumulation of dust and dirt inside the carpets and the dispersion of dust by the constant foot traffic, as a result of which this dust created danger and damage to the works and objects.
Emami clarified: Also, in addition to environmental pollution by the dust in the carpets, one of the existing damages was the increased risk of fire in times of crisis and fire, because if the building caught fire, the carpets would have an effect on accelerating the spread of fire in museums.
She added: "On this basis, we had to use carpets that, in addition to preventing dust accumulation, were also fire-resistant or at least retardant. Therefore, in the first step, antibacterial and flame retardant carpets were used for Marble Throne Porch Museum and Salam Hall, in order to create a path for visitors and eliminate harmful items.
Emami pointed out that last year the Almas Mansion and the Marble Throne Porch were also equipped with antibacterial and flame retardant carpets, and continued: "Also, in the second step, antibacterial and flame retardant carpets will be considered for the Shams al-Emareh Edifice and the Badgir Mansion, and soon these buildings will also be furnished with these carpets."
She said: The area of antibacterial and flame retardant carpets in the Salam Hall is 220 meters, and due to the presence of a rubber mat on the back of the carpets, in addition to neutralizing the pressure of visitors' foot traffic, it also minimizes the pressure on the tiles so that the seven-colored tiles in the Salam Hall are not damaged.
It is worth mentioning that the Salam Hall is known as the main hall and palace of the Golestan Palace in terms of museum services, and it displays a general and authentic view of the royal palace of the Qajar period.
